You deserve effective mental health care.
Mental health in todays world
We are more isolated than we have ever been. Social media, polarized news, and the fast pace of life has created a demand for counseling that we have never seen before. Without connection and self reflection, it can be very easy to have a skewed sense of self and others. Therapy can be a way to cope, and a tool to combat a lost sense of who we are in a world that is rapidly changing. Taking time for you has never been more important.
What is an LPC?
Clients often wonder the differences in the letters counselors have behind their names. Most often, therapists are Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW). Both require a masters-level education, and both can do an exceptional job counseling clients. Often LCSWs focus on social welfare/behavior, and socials systems, where LPCs focus on counseling theory, psychology, and techniques. LPCs focus very specifically on counseling, and LCSW use counseling as one component of their training. Stacy received her Masters in Mental Health Counseling from UCA in 2016, and is currently an LPC.
Stacy’s Therapeutic Modalities
Person Centered
This approach to counseling increases self-acceptance and self-esteem. It requires the therapist be genuine and authentic in session. Person Centered Therapists also see their clients having value, and hold a consistent, positive view of them. The therapist will also have an empathetic understanding of the clients feelings, and will convey this in session.
Interpersonal Process
Stacy uses this approach to focus on the client-therapist relationship. It has the potential to address social isolation or unfulfilling relationships, as well as difficult life transitions that can cause grief, anxiety, and depression. It is different from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in that applies specifically to relationships.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
This is the most researched form of therapy. CBT helps clarify thoughts, emotions, behaviors and expectations, and reveals and changes false, distressing believes. It is a problem-oriented strategy, and very effective for anxiety and depression. The goal in CBT is for clients to manage future problems and reach their potential autonomously.
EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is the gold standard in treating trauma. It is different from talk therapy in that it focuses less on emotions and thoughts, and more on reprocessing memories. It is an in depth theory that has been researched and proven to be beneficial for clients who experience PTSD and other disorders. It is rooted in the idea that bilateral stimulation has a direct impact on memory and learning.
